This family wanted a black slate memorial with a natural cleft (riven) surface.  Letters demand a smooth surface to live on, but slate cleaves evenly enough, often, to enable that.  The daughter, very artistic, has some experience in letter cutting!  We put the Father's name on top so that the daughter could sit in relative comfort and carve his death date when the time comes.  Her letters won't be a perfect match to ours, but families aren't perfect, either. BACK   NEXT
